D’Iberville, MS July 26, 2010 -- Petland of D’Iberville is teaming up with pet food vendors in an effort to provide relief to Gulf Coast residents who have lost their jobs and struggle to keep and feed their pets.
Petland, Inc. is working with their vendors to collect a trailer full of pet food for the residents affected by the oil spill. On August 7th, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Petland of D’Iberville will be giving away 5lb. bags of dog and cat food to local residents in need. Later, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Petland employees will be at Pass Christian Harbor handing out more pet food. If you have filed a claim or suffered a hardship due to the oil spill, please come claim your free bag of pet food. Petland has also distributed $10 off coupons to the BP Community Outreach Centers in Hancock, Harrison & Jackson counties to provide additional help to those struggling to keep their pets.
Petland D’Iberville owner, Shelly Martin, is a life-long resident of the area and agreed to help organize this effort. “Our company has long been associated with community service efforts,” said Martin. “This initiative is much needed for the residents in our area and I’m anxious to be able to do my part in giving some relief to those affected by the spill”.
For those residents that want to help, the Petland store in D’Iberville will be selling t-shirts and frisbees with 100% of the proceeds going to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies. Additionally, to encourage adoption through the local shelters and rescue groups that have also been overwhelmed during the spill, the Petland store will offer 15% off puppy homecoming kits to anyone who adopts a shelter dog or puppy. Simply bring in your shelter receipt to obtain this discount.
